I’ve just now discontinued my Brafilm account. It’s a Swedish version of Netflix. This was my second time as a Brafilm customer and it lasted about one and a half year.

I’ve used my scraped RSS feeds to get information about upcoming, released, and top 100 movies, added the interesting ones to my movie list. Then I’ve gotten the movies from my snail mail box, watched them (quite laborious at times), and sent them back. I like that. But it takes a little too much time and there are not enough interesting movies out there, so I’ve decided to take a pause. Perhaps I’ll return in a while when there’s a backlog of watchable movies.

I do believe that subscription services in general, and music subscription services, like Yahoo! Music Unlimited, in particular have the potential to become huge (but I haven’t tested it out myself yet). I know how to access movies for “free” over the net, but I choose to pay a monthly fee for the convenience and quality (and because it’s the right thing to do?) and this time around I’ve paid $515, which is quite a hefty sum. Movies are probably still not too pirated to be sellable, but is it too late for music?

American culture is fascinating. Documentaries about American culture is fascinating.

I’ve just finished watching Spellbound, a documentary about American youngsters (9-14 years old) studying dictionaries for hours a day just to be able to spell words like wheedle, distractible, heleoplankton, drepaniform and akaryote during the National Spelling Bee. It’s sort of a children pageant for brainiacs.

It’s very foreign to me as a Swede where competition doesn’t play as large of a role in upbriging and education as it seems to do in America. The kids are amazingly good at studying and learning how to spell, but aren’t there better things to learn and shouldn’t kids be allowed to be kids? Interesting documentary and phenomenon though.

Fick hem “Fyra nyanser av brunt” från Brafilm för ett tag sen. En film på 184 minuter tar ett tag att hinna se. Men i måndags och tisdags såg jag en dvd per dag. Jag hade inga större förhoppningar, men huga va tråkig filmen var. I princip består filmen av fyra historier med olika konstiga människor i konstiga situationer. Och temat är tråk.

Jag förstår att Killinggänget har en stor fascination av karaktärer. Det har nog alla skådespelare, iaf karaktärsskådespelare. Men för mig får jakten på att fånga och återspegla karaktärer en besk eftersmak. Det är ofta tragiska situationer, och det är antagligen meningen att man ska tycka att det är humoristiskt när karaktärerna lider och har det jobbigt. Det känns cynsikt.

Men visst, det är nog bara jag som överreagerar. Jag förstår helt enkelt inte filmen, det är bara att erkänna. Hoppas att iaf några av de som sett filmen/TV-serien har fått ut nåt av det.

ps. en sak som jag tyckte var iaf i närheten av intressant är att Johan Rheborg avslöjade i extramatrialet (varför jag tittade på extramatrialet på en lång film jag avskyr? kalla det självplågeri eller “det måste finnas nåt jag missat”) att han under pseudonymet “Kjell Levrén” postade på newsgroupen swnet.media.tv. Han har alltså jobbat på karaktären Kjell Levrén sen 1996. ds.
